A. If you want an answer to a question of this sort, identify the location. It might also be helpful to know whether the scales were smooth or keeled.

Q. Not a big lizard and thanks for helping if you do.
Asked by Kris - Wed Feb 20 09:52:24 2008 - - 10 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Many good lizards out there. Just make absolutely SURE whichever one you get, it was "Captive bred" and not taken from the wild. For every lizard that ends up in a pet store that was taken from the wild, 100 other lizards have died in the process. That is a fact, not my opinion. If at all possible for you, always feed your lizard "crickets" not mealworms. Crickets make much better food, unless, of course, your lizard is a vegetarian like an Iguana. Captive bred Iguanas make pretty good pets, and will get to be quite large "eventually".

How can I trap a lizard that has gotten into my home?
Q. I saw a lizard on my kitchen floor. It ran under the stove and disappeared. What humane methods can I use to coax the lizard out of it's hiding place (where ever it may be now) and put it outside? Some type of bait maybe? Thanks in advance.
Asked by Parker M. - Fri May 16 18:53:40 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. First of all, you must seem giant to the lizard. So, you have two options: 1) Dim the lights. This way, when its ready and comes out, you have the chance to catch it. How? Stay hidden, then quickly take a LIGHT, no very heavy as it can kill the lizard, rug or cloth that's large and throw it at the lizard. This can work well as most lizards aren't nocturnal creatures. 2) Bait it with fruit or, my favourite method, a lamp. Lizards love sunning themselves, so try placing a desk or bed lamp near its hiding place and turning it on. While its relaxed and unsuspecting, thrown a light cloth or rug on it. Quickly take it outside and release it - no one likes to be held captive.

What is the difference between a monitor lizard and a komodo dragon?
Q. Or is a komodo dragon a type of monitor lizard? Also, what are the 10 largest lizards in the world?

A. The four largest, in order, are the Komodo dragon of Indonesia, the crocodile monitor lizard of I believe Asia, the water monitor lizard, Asia, and the perentie, of Australia. The other six, I'm not sure, but the Nile monitor might be fifth. By the way I'm getting my information from the article entitled perentie on the wikipedia. Monitor lizards are a kind of lizard.

How can I revive this Florida lizard that made its way into a semi to Wisconsin?
Q. We got a truckload in today here in Wisconsin from Florida with a little lizard in there! He's barely moving and very weak. I have him in a container by the heater and gave him some water. Its tough to find living bugs in Wisconsin in the winter, so what are your suggestions for him to eat? Do you think he'll make it? I don't have a picture, but I do believe it is a Brown Anole.

A. get some small meal worms, or even catch some flies. they eat about everything. To feed him hold the lizard gently in one hand and rub the meal worm on the side of his face. It should open its mouth and promptly chomp down on the critter. you can then put it in a box with leaves at the bottom for it to hide under. A. Well, I had like a 15-20 gallon tank for my anoles, they are a great pet. Mine lived for about 6 years. Then I got a house gecko... He lived for about 4. Both are great pets... although my anoles were usually active at night and would wake me up here and there, only about 1 every two months. There pretty cool. And Geckos are real cool cuz they don't mind being picked up and played with.

How do I get rid of a lizard that is eating my plants?
Q. I have a green lizard on my patio that ate my orchid flowers and the leaves on my plants, how do I get rid of it?
Asked by Gardener_Miami - Fri Nov 2 00:07:56 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Try different 'materials' under (or around) the plant. Chicken wire - - many animals don't like walking on that. Sheet of aluminum (not foil) - - many animals don't like walking on anything slippery. Set plant in middle of a garbage can lid with salt inside of lid - - lizards don't like something that will 'dry' them; salt removes moisture. Boric acid (in Borax) will kill bugs or animals that get into it and licks (or eats) it - - do not use if have pets or small children).

Can someone identify an orange and black striped lizard I found?
Q. The stripes were rings around his body. His skin appeared very smooth and shiny. I think the eyes were a whitish color. I'm not sure it was technically a lizard, but it had feet like one. It was hiding under a board beneath my deck in the San Diego mountains (Julian). I wish I'd taken a picture... It was about 6 or 8 inches long. And the stripes were very distict - not spotty like the gila monster pictures I've seen.

Q. I have had many other pets but i am thinking about getting a lizard. But i dont know which type is best for a first time reptile owner. I was thinking 2 beardies what do you think?
Asked by Carson M - Sat Oct 11 21:09:25 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Bearded Dragons are just about perfect for a first time pet owner. They stay a manageable size, they're calm and tame down easily. As long as you have enough space for them 2 would be fine. Leopard Geckos are cool. They're nocternal, and a little more fragile than beardies, but still cool. Cheers!

A. You should never mix two species of lizards together. Any kind it doesn't matter. They are solitary animals and do not live in groups in the wild. They are also very territorial. They can fight to the death if they feel another is intruding on their territory. Also some lizards will carry diseases that they themselves are immune to but when introduced to another species can really make them sick and possibly die. Don't take the chance if you want another lizard house him separately. You could get another Bearded Dragon but their is still a risk you must be sure there are NOT two males. Two males will certainly fight to the death. Which isn't good... females can still fight and can still be territorial but are much nicer about it (sometime [cont.]

Is it normal for my baby lizard to eat so much?
Q. I have a baby Western Fence Lizard. When they are bigger ,they usually eat about 1 cricket every other day. But my baby lizard (he is about 4 weeks old), he eats about 3 crickets a day! Is that normal, or am i over feeding him?
Asked by Lady - Tue Sep 4 10:38:02 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Baby fence lizards have a very high metabolism. Also, feeding them more will make them grow faster. But in my opinion, it's hard to overfeed a baby. It's when they are full grown is when their metabolism slows down and they can become obese. But honestly, I rarely see or hear of obesity in lizards. I see it in snakes quite often though.

How do you flush a fence lizard out of a refrigerator?
Q. It happened yesterday one afternoon when my mom opened the refrigerator and caught a glimpse of a fence lizard darting away into complex of food containers. she tried to look for it but she couldn't find it. At a later time on the same day, my dad also saw it and tried to looked for it but it seemed to have disappeared altogether somehow. Upon hearing this from my parents, I tried to examine the entire refrigerator from top to the bottom but to no avail. How the heck did the lizard get in there in the first place? What does it eat because there were no signed of foods beeing eaten. How do you flush it out?

A. It has most likely frozen to death by now. You should probably clean out your fridge and get it out of there. And if your fridge is that messy, you might find some other unpleasant surprises in there! (No offense, that's how my mother's fridge is!)
